How to work a Remote Starter/Alarm?

I’m looking into getting an aftermarket alarm system for my Accord sedan (possibly the Viper 5901 or 5902). My question is when I’ve started up the car using a remote starter and the engine is on, do I then insert the key and turn it to the ‘on’ position and it’s ready to go?

Why is my car alarm going off?

One cold morning I attempted to start my car with the *auto start*. It didn’t work, then later my car alarm started going off. I kept having trouble with the auto starter, and whenever I did, hours later (often at night) the car alarm would go off. The dealership blamed it on the auto starter. The auto starter people said to only use their remote to lock and unlock the car, and not the one that came with the car. I did that, but still have the problem. Usually it’s whenever I try to use the remote starter, but it’s happened a couple times randomly. Their giving me the run around at the remote starter place, even though it’s got a warranty. My neighbor’s might stone me sometime soon if I don’t get this figured out. Only respond if you have an actual idea of what could be happening. My spouse has an extra starter that I’m going to have switched to see if that clears things up.

Today out of the blue, I noticed my red "Toyota Security" light was lit-up. I haven’t done a thing differently, and everything has been running fine. I didn’t think much of it, until tonight while driving home from the dog park, the horn starting BLARING by itself. The horn will stop when I cut the lights, and thankfully isn’t going off right now when the car is turned off. But I had to drive the rest of the way home with the horn blaring and everyone thinking I’m a big a-hole.

I had a remote starter installed about 3-4 years ago (not factory), and have always wondered if that screwed anything up with the system, as sometimes my doors don’t want to unlock when I use the button on the remote starter.

Does anyone know what could be going on? I referred to my owner’s manual, but the directions on how to "restart" the system are fuzzy at best. I’ve also tried researching the problem online but haven’t had much luck. Thanks!
I just got back from the dealership in town, and they had to completely remove the remote start system from the car.

I guess the type of remote start system that was installed isn’t too compatible with the Toyota security system. He said to install them you have to bypass the system itself, as it piggy-backs the security system. If one malfunctions, both malfunction. Who knew 4 years later it would be such a hassle?!

I belive it’s the connector that fits into the remote starter on the window, but not sure.

I just bought a 1998 Eclipse (manual) and live in a college town so I thought I’d get an alarm. It comes with the remote starter. No, it’s not illegal to install that on a manual, it’s just dangerous. I read some reviews online and a couple said that it’s really complicated to install and you had to get extra parts for it.

    How much should it cost.?

I called a place to have a remote car started installed, they said it would cost around 0-0 installed. It is for a 1994 Chevy Blazer, fuel injected and automatic transmission. That is just for a remote starter, no alarm or nothing, is this price right or are they trying to rip me off.
